PUBLIC WEAL: Children playing games at the charity programme at St Xavier's Cathedral in Palayamkottai on Sunday. TIRUNELVELI: To mobilise funds for providing better healthcare, education and to fulfil the personal needs of the deprived children in Sub-Saharan countries to the possible extent, youngsters below 20 years organised a daylong charity programme on the premises of St. Xavier's Cathedral at Palayamkottai on Sunday. With most of the Sub-Saharan children suffering from malnutrition and living in pathetic condition, owing to a range of socio-political reasons, the children affiliated to St. Xavier's Cathedral organised the charity programme to mobilise the resources. Following the Holy Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. S. Antonysamy, Vicar General, Palayamkottai RC Diocese, the event started around 9 a.m. While hundreds of children enthusiastically participated in as many as 27 funny games by contributing Rs. 2 per game and won the prizes, the elders prepared sumptuous breakfast, yummy biryani and tiffin to be sold to those who wanted to join hands with their kids in helping the poor children of Africa. The sale of ice-creams, chocolates, jelly and the joyrides too made the programme more effective. Proceeds “The entire proceeds of this event will go for the betterment of the poor African children,” said Rev. Fr. Antony A. Cruz, parish priest, St. Xavier's Cathedral, who coordinated the programme along with his assistants Rev. Fr. Arul Antony and Rev. Fr. Sahaya Prabhu and a team of volunteers.
