New bank branches indicate development, says Chidambaram

SIVAGANGA: Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram said on Sunday that opening of new branches of banks was an indication of development.

Inaugurating a new branch of Indian Overseas Bank at Managiri near here, he said that unlike several blocks in states such as Bihar, Manipur and others, Sivaganga district had been blessed with a number of nationalised banks. They had been functioning in all blocks. They were opening branches wherever there was business potential. It showed that the area had been developing at a good pace.

Pointing out the growth of Managiri area, an outskirt of Karaikudi, Mr. Chidambaram said besides a school and a teacher training institute two hospitals had been set up in the limit of Thalakavur panchayat in which Managiri was part.

The less known Managiri was coming up so fast due to the proactive steps.

Stating that IOB was lead bank of the district, the Minister said the people should come forward to utilise the services of banking services. Each and every person and family in their respective areas should use them for their growth.
