“Dismiss DMK government”

Special Correspondent

Chennai: Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founder Vijayakant on Sunday asked the Centre to dismiss the DMK government in the State, as a television channel owned by family members of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was under the scanner of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In a statement here, he said the Supreme Court, which was monitoring the investigation in the 2G spectrum scam, had asked the CBI not to allow anyone involved in the scam go scot-free even if they occupied high positions. “Now, it has become evident that Kalaignar TV, in which Chief Minister's wife and daughter have 80 per cent stake, has received funds from a company involved in the 2G scam,” he said.

As Mr. Karunanidhi was the Chief Minister, there could be interference in the investigation, he alleged. If the Chief Minister was not willing to resign, the Centre should dismiss his government. Otherwise, people would presume that Congress was also part of the scam, he said. Since the interim budget had been presented, the DMK government's dismissal would not cause any administrative inconvenience.
