West Ham defeats Liverpool

London: Kenny Dalglish suffered his second English Premier League football defeat since his return to Liverpool on Sunday, as his side went down 3-1 at West Ham United.

Scott Parker gave West Ham a 22nd-minute lead and Demba Ba doubled its advantage just before half-time.

Glen Johnson pulled one back with six minutes to go, but Carlton Cole confirmed the win in injury-time.

West Ham, whose co-owner David Gold was unable to attend the game having been hospitalised with Septacaemia, remains in the relegation zone, third from bottom, level on points with Wolverhampton Wanderers in fourth bottom.

Liverpool is still sixth, but its hopes of qualifying for the Champions League are fading fast as it stands eight points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fourth.

Dalglish's side had gone seven games unbeaten in all competitions, but was second best for long spells against a West Ham side that seems rejuvenated after the return of Thomas Hitzlsperger from injury.

The results:

On Sunday: West Ham 3 (Parker 22, Ba 45, Cole 91) bt Liverpool 1 (Johnson 84).

Manchester City 1 (Balotelli 26) drew with Fulham 1 (Duff 48). — Agencies
