Corrections and clarifications

The railway budget highlights and the editorial, “Mamata's populist budget” (February 26, 2011), referred to an “increase in concession rate from 30 per cent to 40 per cent for both men and women [in the senior citizens category].” As many readers have pointed out, senior citizens among women are already entitled to a 50 per cent concession. The actual quote of the Railway Minister's speech was: “At present concession for senior citizens is extended to both men and women at 60 years of age. I propose to reduce this in case of women to 58 years. I also do not want to annoy the men, and therefore propose to increase their concession from 30 per cent to 40 per cent.”
