Disappointing

The Union budget does not respond to the aspirations of the aam aadmi. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has not proposed any concrete action plan to reduce the prices of essential commodities, decrease inflation, and seize black money. The concept of cash subsidy for kerosene appears a myth, given the level of corruption in the administration. Although there is a marginal increase in the income tax exemption limit, the benefit has not been passed on to women. The statement on introducing bills to further liberalise the insurance and banking sector are also against the interest of the working class.

J.V.L.N. Murthy,

Vijayawada

A disappointing budget when the nation is reeling under the impact of inflation. There is no significant increase in the allocation for the social sector. The absence of any concrete measures to ensure the long awaited food security for all is a big blow to our march towards inclusive growth.

M. Jeyaram,

Singapore
