Fillip to Etikoppaka artisans

G.V. Prasada Sarma

VISAKHAPATNAM: The toy story of Etikoppaka, known for its traditional toys, is going places. The toys are unique as they are made of local wood on a lathe machine and coloured with lac using vegetable dyes making them environment-friendly. To infuse fresh enthusiasm among the artisans working for generations together in toy-making, a design workshop is being organised for them. The artisans are quick learners and are happy that their latent creativity will get an impetus. The workshop is being organised by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, Visakhapatnam chapter, with the support of INTACH, New Delhi. Pooja Ratnakar, a craft promoter from Delhi, is working with artisans from February 16 in the workshop.
