17 people arrested for liquor sale

Tirupur: As many as 17 people were arrested from the district on Sunday evening for selling liquor without any permit for carrying on the business.
The accused were either found selling liquor on pavements or through petty shops and cafeteria run by them at Perumanallur, Avianshipalayam, Tirupur city, Mangalam, Komaralingam and other areas of the town.
Workers robbed
Two workers of a private oil mill at Vellakoil were allegedly robbed of Rs. 2.63 lakh cash while walking along a road on Sunday.
According to the police, the incident occurred on the Vellakoil-Coimbatore highway when two persons who were riding on a motorcycle passed by the victims and snatched the bag containing cash and escaped.
