MADURAI: Police stepped up security at places of worship after a severed head of a calf, wrapped in a plastic bag, was found inside the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's office here on Tuesday. Police said that at around 4.30 a.m., a staff member at the office premises spotted the bag, following which a team of police officers removed the animal's head. On information, Inspector General of Police (South Zone) P. Balasubramanian and Commissioner of Police (Madurai City) A. Pari inspected the premises. The two officers said stern action would be taken as per law and that security would be stepped up for RSS functionaries. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Balasubramanian said three teams had been formed to investigate the crime. All places of worship would be accorded round-the-clock security by the city police personnel. The S.S. Colony police are investigating the case. A large posse of policemen and women has been deployed in the locality as a precautionary measure. The Bharatiya Janata Party's State propaganda secretary Sasiraman said the BJP and RSS would not be cowed down by such threats. He demanded that the culprits be arrested.
