MADURAI: Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called upon the State Government to grant tax concessions and electricity tariff subsidy to industrial units in the backward regions of south Tamil Nadu. Chamber president N. Jegatheesan said that the increase in load shedding hours besides unannounced power cuts was severely hampering industrial production. These were forcing industries to sustain heavy wastage resulting in reduced output. Further, industrialists were forced to pay workers during the idle hours in order to retain them. The impact of these factors had been compounded by the increase of raw material prices. These factors were bound to have a severe impact on southern districts, which are already lagging behind industrially compared to northern districts. He also came down heavily upon the practice of exempting Chennai from load shedding.
