Life convict held after jumping parole

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Selvam alias ‘Bomb' Selvam, one of the life convicts in the case relating to the kidnap and murder of former MLA M.K. Balan, was arrested by the Crime Branch CID here on Tuesday. Selvam was absconding since his release on parole in December last year, police sources said. Selvam and 15 others were sentenced to life imprisonment in the sensational case that was investigated by the CB-CID. On December 15, he was released on parole for three days to see his ailing wife Amaravathi. However, he did not return to the Puzhal central prison on December 19.

On the instructions of Director General of Police Letika Saran, the CB-CID formed a special team to investigate the case. Following a tip-off, the team arrested Selvam on Mount-Poonamallee Road in Mugaliwakkam. The accused was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody, the sources added.
