Cash incentives given away

Chennai: Minister of State for sports T.P.M. Moideen Khan gave away cash incentives worth Rs. 75 lakh to medallists from the state who had distinguished themselves at the Commonwealth Games, the Asian Games and the Asian Weightlifting championships of 2010, here at a function organised by SDAT on Tuesday.

The awardees: Commonwealth games: Table tennis (team event): A. Amalraj (bronze): Rs. 10 lakh.

Asian Games: Squash (individual event): Sourav Ghosal (bronze): Rs. 10 lakh.

Team event: Sourav Ghosal (bronze), Dipika Pallikal (bronze), Anaka Alankamony (bronze), Joshna Chinappa (bronze): Rs. 10 lakh each.

Chess (team event): K. Sasikiran (bronze): Rs. 10 lakh.

Asian weightlifting championship: Over 90kg: D. Dhivya (gold): Rs. 5 lakh .

Eniyan excels

Eniyan's brace helped Loyola Yellows beat Loyola Engineering 5-0 in the Rev. Father Murphy Memorial inter-collegiate football tournament on Tuesday.

PS SSS is champion

V. Abhishek (71) and V. Abhijith (24) helped PS SSS (Mylapore) register a 10-wicket win over PSBB (K.K. Nagar) ‘A' in the final of the PSBB under-10 cricket tournament here on Tuesday.

The scores: PSBB ‘A' 101 in 26.3 overs lost to PS SSS 102 for no loss in 19.2 overs (V. Abhishek 71 n.o.) .

Madras varsity triumphs

The University of Madras women's team won the title in the All-India inter-university table tennis championships, organised by the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum (Karnataka) recently.

Madras overcame Calcutta 3-2 in the final. The Madras men's team, however, lost in the final to Calcutta 2-3.

Cricket tournament

The Seven Star Cricket Association will organise the SSCA-Harshvardhan Cup 30-over league format tournament and the SSCA summer T20 tournament from March 20. The tournaments are for corporates, clubs and banks.

Title for Alpha

Alpha Arts and Science College beat Hindustan College 25-19, 25-18 to win the Quaide Milleth volleyball trophy tournament on Tuesday.
