points to ponder:Students undergoing a training on resuce operation in Pudukottai
PUDUKOTTAI: Students from different colleges in and around Pudukottai recently underwent rigorous training in providing first aid assistance to the needy, emergency rescue and relief operations for those engulfed by flames and prevention of the spread of fire.
For the 75 youth, all members of the Youth Red Cross functioning in 11 colleges in the district, every session of the three-day orientation sponsored by the Tamil Nadu branch of the Indian Red Cross Society, provided vital information on various topics. From the responsibility of the ‘108 emergency ambulance' personnel to the first aid techniques, and from environmental protection to healthy food habits, the students were exposed to various topics.
Demonstrations on ‘mock drills' by the fire and rescue personnel were also conducted.
S. Sridharan, Controller of Examinations, Bharathidasan University, in his inaugural address, said that the training would go a long way towards students' personality development. J. Raja Mohamad, honorary district secretary of Red Cross Society, said that students should develop an aptitude for selfless service.
G. Edwin, Hospital Superintendent, Government Headquarters Hospital, said that first aid played a key role in healing the wounds or burns sustained during an incident. He also explained case-specific techniques to be adopted for those suffering with orthopaedic problems and dog bites.
E. Balasubramanian, Divisional Fire Officer, and Rajsekar Pudukottai spoke. They gave useful tips on fire-fighting techniques as well as first aid strategy.
V.R. Boominathan, Head of Department of Commerce, Bishop Heber College, Tiruchi, spoke on time management techniques for a successful career.
