IT authorities' appeal to people

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Seeking public help in curbing the use of money power in elections, income tax authorities have asked citizens to alert them if they come across movement of large amounts of cash that could be used to lure voters in the Assembly elections.

The Directorate General of Income Tax (Investigation), Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, has set up a 24 X 7 toll-free call centre to receive complaints and information from the public for smooth, free and fair conduct of elections.

A release issued on Thursday asked the public to inform about movement of large amount of cash through airport, important railway stations, couriers, hotels, hawala agents, financial brokers. Details can be passed through toll free no. 1800 425 6669, fax 044 2824 0064 or email: itcontrolroomchennai
