Kolkata: The West Bengal government will submit an affidavit before the Supreme Court on Friday, on the communication between Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram relating to the Netai incident.
West Bengal Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh told reporters at the Secretariat that the affidavit was notarised on Thursday and has already been sent. “We sent it today [on Thursday] and it will be filed tomorrow [on Friday],” Mr. Ghosh told reporters.
Nine persons were killed in firing at Netai village near Lalgarh. The firing came from a house which allegedly belongs to a CPI(M) leader and the State government was probing the case through the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
However the High Court, which was hearing a case on this matter, directed the government to hand it over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The matter reached the Supreme Court with the State government filing a petition to set aside the order.
“The State government is contesting the directive on the ground that the CID needed more time and that it is a professional agency,” Mr. Ghosh said.
