TIRUPATTUR: The adventure sports park at Yelagiri Hills is all set to thrill adventure enthusiasts. The work on the park has been completed and about four trial runs have been conducted at this new attraction on the hills.

According to authorities, the objective of establishing the park was to attract persons interested in adventure activities. They are confident that the facility would draw young persons. “The work on the park has been completed. We have handed over the maintenance tender too,” an authority said.

Established at Nilavoor, the park offers a number of elements for adventure sport lovers. Apart from attracting tourists and offering adventure sports, the purpose of the park was also to offer stress management and training of kids and youth.

The training in adventure sports is divided into three main types of obstacles — low elements, high elements and pyramid. So far, four batches of adventure enthusiasts including college students, corporate personnel and Europeans have attempted the activities on a trial basis, according to Saravanan Ramasamy, Chief Executive Officer of HASU Infotech (India) Pvt Ltd, consultant and owner of the project.

The low elements were TP shuffle, giant finger, whale watch and over the top, while the high elements were triangle tension traverse, Mohawk walk and nitro crossing.

The park has a 30-metre-tall pyramid — sports tower — with more than 15 challenge stations. “Participants are roped together in teams of five to plan and negotiate a series of 15 upwardly spiralling challenges under the supervision of certified instructors. As participants conquer the tower, they get to ring the bell of victory. The ultimate reward is a cool descent via the flying fox,” Mr. Ramasamy explained.

Through these adventure activities, the project is aimed at promoting communication, strategic planning, negotiation, motivation, leadership, management, and problem solving among the participants.

Mr. Ramasamy said the park provides a tribal living environment as it contains 10 cottages providing thatched roof living culture. “The response has been good. More marketing has to be done to spread awareness of such a facility among those in Chennai and Bangalore,” he mentioned.
