CHENNAI: The Anti Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested the Deputy Registrar of Trade Mark, N.D. Kasthuri and her husband Dayakar Nainar, who is an advocate, on Wednesday for abetment and possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of their income. Cases were registered against them for committing offences punishable under Section 109 of the IPC and Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. According to a release, after registering cases against the couple, searches were conducted on Wednesday at Chennai and Bangalore, leading to seizure of cash of Rs.33 lakh, fixed deposits for a value of Rs.85 lakh and gold ornaments weighing about 3.8 kg. Documents seized revealed that the accused were in possession of two flats in Adyar, Chennai, two flats in Tirupathi and one each in Mumbai and Ahmedabad, and had approximately Rs.10 lakh in various bank accounts. Ms. Kasthuri, who worked in the Intellectual Property Office, Guindy, and her husband were remanded to judicial custody till March 17 by the Principal Special Judge for CBI cases, Chennai.
