WARANGAL: The drama competitions organised by the Sahrudaya cultural and literary organisation drew huge crowds indicating growing patronage to the art form that is on the wane.

Elated organisers pledged to continue the tradition despite hardships coming in the way.

Speaking to The Hindu, Sahrudaya general secretary T. Laxman Rao said the annual drama competitions have been receiving State wide attention and artistes from all corners of the State getting an opportunity to showcase their talent.

At the just concluded competitions, Satyananda Creations of Hyderabad staged ‘Yuddhakanda' and Sai Arts staged ‘Number leni Khaidi', Ushodya Kalaniketan staged ‘Garadi'.

Other dramas staged at the competitions were ‘Chellani Paisalu' by Chaitanya Kala Bharati, ‘Pegu Bandham' by Kalaradhana and ‘Na bharanam ippichandi' by Mayuri Arts Creations.

The dramas featured contemporary issues and problems facing the society. ‘Pegu Bhandham' highlighted importance of love and how money cannot win relations always.

In ‘Na bharanam Ippichandi' drama, the artistes held the audience spellbound with the theme on love between by husband and wife.

Sahrudaya founded in 1996 by a group of art lovers has been conducting a series of literary and cultural programme annually encouraging writers, poets and artistes while striving to preserve the declining art forms.

According to Mr. Laxman Rao, they were planning to hold a series of lectures on Upanishads soon.

Earlier, they conducted a workshop on Mahabharatam where academics and Vedic pundits from different parts delivered lectures unveiling unknown interpretations.
