Pollution control board issues green guideline for parties


Loudspeakers use restricted, keep green diesel generator 100 m away from ‘silence zone'

Ban on use of plastic, non-biodegradable materials for making flags, festoons, banners


Kolkata: With the Election Commission's model code of conduct already in force, the West Bengal Pollution Control Board on Friday issued guidelines for all contesting parties during poll campaign with immediate effect.

The Board's chairman, P. N. Roy, urged all political parties to maintain norms contained in the ‘Green Guideline' for the protection of environment during the poll campaign.

The guidelines include restricted use of loudspeakers with sound limiter in the amplifier, carrying of valid Pollution Under Control certificate in each vehicle, use of green diesel generator set during power cuts to be placed 100 metres away from ‘silence zone', ban on use of plastic and non-biodegradable materials for manufacture of flags, festoons and banners.

The board has also restricted poll meetings in designated children's parks and gardens, restoration of any open field after such meetings, protection of trees and ban on use of air horn in vehicles, mandatory procurement of approval from competent authorities on use of loudspeakers and its attachment to any vehicle.

The contesting parties were asked not to use loudspeakers in open air before three days of the commencement of the Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations and till such examinations were over. PTI
