The project cost will be Rs. 2.1 crore It will help the administration save up to Rs. 3 lakh per annum on power bills BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa Renewable Energy Development Agency is gearing up to install 50 kilo watt peak capacity roof top solar photovoltaic power plant on State Secretariat building. A team of experts who were involved in installing similar solar power plant in Parliament Bhawan would be coming for a detail discussion with OREDA executives here on March 8. The consultation would be followed by inviting of expression of interest from firms for the project. The OREDA had furnished a proposal for implementation of a roof top off solar photovoltaic power plant with total investment of Rs. 2.1 crore. Ministry of New and Renewable Ministry has already sanctioned Rs. 45 lakh as subsidy for the project. “The power generated from the plant would be utilised for lighting the garden and street lights. Green signal The plant will also be available for the third floor conference hall as failover arrangement. During peak hours, part of power would be supplied to the grid,” OREDA Chief Executive P. K. Mohan said . The project was recently given a green signal at a high-level meeting chaired by Finance Secretary. The meeting resolved that OREDA would execute the work on a priority basis. The first instalment of Rs. 1 crore would be released to OREDA as the State share during the current financial year 2010-11 by the Energy Department from the energy conservation head and balance amount would be released in 2011-12. “If everything goes smoothly, the project would be completed within six months,” said Mr. Mohan. It was decided that secretary of works and chief architect would ensure preservation of aesthetics and safety needs while adequate provisions for roof top clearance required for maintenance would be ensured by OREDA. Moreover, it was stressed that the structure should meet design standards to withstand higher wind velocity during cyclones. The OREDA Chief Executive said the solar plant would help the State Secretariat building administration save between Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh per annum on electricity bills.
