226 basements to be razed

MYSORE: The demolition of 226 basements, owing to the misuse of these spaces for purposes other than parking and for violations from the sanctioned plan, will commence shortly.

Show-cause notices had been issued to the owners of such buildings over the encroachment of the basement space and trade licences issued to them had been cancelled. Disclosing this at the council meeting of the Mysore City Corporation here on Friday, Commissioner K.S. Raykar said the demolition will be conducted in phases and the work will commence from Temple Road in V.V. Mohalla.

“We need a lot of force to conduct the drive across the city at one go. Hence, the demolition will be done in phases,” he said.
