GULBARGA: The Deputy Commissioner's office has clarified that there was no truth in the allegations made by former Labour Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader S.K. Kanta that the official had obtained files pertaining to the pending wages of the pourakarmikas working in Gulbarga City Corporation from the office of the Assistant Commissioner for Labour here. In a two-page clarification, Additional Deputy Commissioner Math Mallikarjun, who is also the public information officer, said here on Friday that the Deputy Commissioner had not obtained any file from the Assistant Commissioner of Labour. He had not even written any letter to the Assistant Commissioner of Labour in this regard. Mr. Math clarified that the Assistant Commissioner of Labour had provided wrong information to Mr. Kanta on November 15 that as per the directions of the Deputy Labour Commissioner, the file pertaining to the pourakarmikas had been sent to the Deputy Commissioner. “We have sought explanation from the Assistant Commissioner of Labour in this regard and are awaiting a response,” he said. He said that suitable action would be initiated against the official for providing wrong information under the Right To Information (RTI) Act to Mr. Kanta. Referring to the petition filed by Mr. Kanta before the Assistant Commissioner of Labour under the Payment of Wages Act, Mr. Math said that there was no correspondence between the office of the Deputy Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioner of Labour and in the entire incident, the Deputy Commissioner's office had no role to play and the question of Deputy Commissioner seeking the file pertaining to pourakarmikas did not arise at all. Mr. Kanta, in a complaint filed with the Lokayukta, had demanded action against Deputy Commissioner R. Vishal for allegedly seeking the file pertaining to the payment of pending wages to pourakarmikas with an intention to wilfully delay the payment of pending wages to them.
