Fire at Tiruvannamalai hill

Tiruvannamalai: A fire that broke out at Tiruvannamalai hill from behind Pachaiyamman temple spread to vast tracts of forests.

Dried ‘manjampul,' ubiquitous reed in the hill, was responsible for the rapid spread. Volunteers and forest personnel fought hard to control the fire.

Volunteers used small tree branches and bulk of green bush vegetation to extinguish the fire. A fire tender was rushed to the temple.
