KHAMMAM: Three pilgrims were killed and seven others seriously injured in a gruesome road accident involving a car and a lorry on the Khammam-Warangal highway near Arempula village in Khammam rural mandal around midnight on Thursday. According to police sources, the car carrying nine pilgrims bound for Annavaram in East Godavari district collided head on with a speeding lorry on the outskirts of Arempula village a little after midnight. All the occupants of the ill-fated car including its driver suffered grievous injuries in the accident. While one of the seriously injured passengers died on the way to hospital, two others succumbed to the injuries during the course of treatment at the district headquarters hospital in Khammam. The other injured passengers were rushed to a private hospital in the town. Their condition is stated to be stable. The deceased were identified as G. Sudhakar Reddy, 32, B. Suryodhan Reddy, 70 and D. Chandramouli, 48, of Warangal district. The passengers hail from Nidigonda village in Raghunathapalli mandal of Warangal District. They were proceeding on a pilgrimage to Annavaram, Simhachalam and other pilgrim centres when the accident occurred.
