CWG medallists felicitated

CHENNAI: Madras District Table Tennis Association (MDTTA) felicitated the 2010 Commonwealth Games medallists in a simple and elegant manner at the SRM City Campus (Vadapalani) here on Friday.

Sharath Kamal, R. Abishek, A. Amalraj and K. Shamini were given mementoes and cash awards. Sharath, who won a gold (men's doubles) and two bronze medals (team and singles) in CWG took home the maximum prize money of Rs. 25,000. Abishek (team bronze, Rs. 10,000), Amalraj (team bronze, Rs. 10,000) and K. Shamini (team silver, Rs. 15,000) were also felicitated.

Sharath said the Indian team had trained hard for three and a half years for CWG and that the hard work had paid dividends.

Amalraj said “I worked hard for the medals. My dream has come true now.”

Abishek described the year 2010 as special. “It was for the first time I entered the top eight in India. After CWG, my confidence has improved.” — Special Correspondent
