EC seeks report on complaint against Asim Dasgupta

KOLKATA: The Election Commission has sought information from the West Bengal government whether Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta violated the model code of conduct.

Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh told journalists here on Friday: “I received a communication to this effect last [Thursday] night and I have sought a report from the Finance Secretary.”

The development follows a written complaint filed before the EC by Trinamool Congress leader Subrata Baxi. The EC then sent notice to the Chief Electoral Officer, who sought information from the Chief Secretary. “The matter regarding the issue of government orders and signing of files on the evening of March 2, even after the announcement of the Assembly election schedule, will be probed,” Mr. Ghosh said. Indications are the report will be ready by Monday.
