TD stalwarts in the race for MLC posts
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu has a tough task on hand with many party stalwarts lobbying for the three possible posts of MLCs that the party could win from the MLAs quota in the Legislative Council elections.
While the party is believed to have selected Satish Reddy of Kadapa, there is race for two other vacancies. The party has ruled out re-nominating its sitting members Masala Padmaja (SC) and M. Laxminarayana (BC) though it will maintain the caste balance.
Though CPI which has four MLAs was keen on re-nomination senior leader and MLC, Puvvada Nageswara Rao, TDP sources said it may not oblige owing to pressure from within.
Senior leaders including Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, K. Pratibha Bharathi, Ummareddy Venkateswarlu, Thammineni Seetharam have reportedly thrown their hats in the ring. Second rung leaders who have either lost in the 2009 Assembly elections or made way for TRS are also in the race like former MLAs Atchan Naidu and Vem Narender Reddy.
In the others category, L.V.S.R.K. Prasad who has been in the party from 1986 and chairman of media committee for the last 12 years and Garikapati Mohan Rao, who made a name by taking care of logistics for Mr. Naidu's tours figure prominently in the list of probables. Mr. Prasad met Mr. Naidu on Friday and believed to have got favourable response.
