Five contenders for Council seat

KAKINADA: As many as five candidates have been contesting for the Legislative Council seat of the local bodies' constituency in East Godavari district. After scrutinising the nominations, the officials on Saturday announced that Gidugu Rudraraju of the Indian National Congress, Boddu Bhaskara Rama Rao of the Telugu Desam Party and independent candidates Kudupudi Chittabbayi, Nagaraju Rudraraju and Settibattula Kumara Raja were in the contest. Datla Subba Raju, who filed nomination as independent candidate, withdrew his nomination on Saturday.
Election observer and Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Warehousing Corporation S. Balasubrahmanyam conducted the scrutiny of nominations in the presence of the candidates and the officials. In all, 14 sets of nomination forms were approved by the officials.
