‘Energy saving should become a culture'

Staff Reporter

Thrissur: Energy conservation should become a culture and way of life, P.C. Chacko, MP, has said.

He was addressing ENCON-2011, a national energy congress, at the College of Horticulture, Vellanikkara, on Saturday.

Mr. Chacko said that saving of energy was the responsibility of each individual and called for an awareness programme on the relevance and importance of energy conservation.

K.R. Viswambharan, Vice-Chancellor, KAU, said the Energy Congress would become successful only if it could take the message of saving energy to the common man.

“The KAU want to evolve and popularise energy efficient agricultural systems which will make the State free of fallow land,” he said.

Ajith Prabhu, Joint Director, Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment( KSCSTE), said that sustainability should be understood in terms of optimum use of available resources, reduction of waste and developing alternate technologies.
