Tirupur: The State government should set up an exclusive employment exchange to recruit specially-trained people for cooperative institutions on the lines of the one functioning in Kerala, said X.L.X. Wilson, Assistant Professor of Cooperation, Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore.

“Inducting people with sector-specific competence will make the cooperative movement in the State more vibrant,” he said while delivering keynote address at a seminar on “Cooperatives” organized by Tirupur Kumaran College for Women here on Friday.

He reiterated the need to post professionals as officers of cooperative credit institutions and cooperative-sector banks.

Transparency

For enhancing transparency in the operation of cooperative societies, elections should be conducted periodically and members of such societies should be made aware of the socio-economic benefits of the cooperative movement.

Mr Wilson stressed the need to minimize political interference in the functioning of cooperative institutions for ensuring better output.

College principal Rachel Nancy Philip, among others, spoke.
