Tendulkar's bat fetches Rs. 5 lakh

Bangalore: A bat belonging to Sachin Tendulkar fetched Rs. 5 lakh at a charity auction of cricket memorabilia here on Friday, expectedly emerging the priciest item on the occasion.

The event — titled ‘Aasare-Shelter' — raised approximately Rs. 9 lakh for the benefit of the Mathru Foundation, a non-profit organisation working to rehabilitate paraplegics.

Immediately trailing Tendulkar's bat in value was an ODI jersey belonging to Javagal Srinath, selling for Rs. 65,000. A bat autographed by all members of the current Indian World Cup squad sold for Rs. 60,000.

A total of 13 articles, donated by active and retired Indian cricketers, went under the hammer. Among these was a bat belonging to Rahul Dravid, a pair of wicketkeeping gloves owned by M.S. Dhoni, and a Royal Challengers Bangalore jersey contributed by Anil Kumble. — Sports Reporter
