BHEL invites applications for certificate course in welding

TIRUCHI: BHEL Educational Society has invited applications for the one-year full-time PG certificate programme in ‘Welding and Quality Engineering' (2011-12) it runs in collaboration with PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore.

Candidates will have three months of theoretical training at the college and spend the rest of the programme duration at the Welding Research Institute at BHEL, Tiruchi.

The partnership between the two entities, born out of the great global demand for welding professionals with good exposure to theory and practical knowledge, crystallised in the start of the programme a few years back. Major fabrication industries have absorbed the candidates soon after the one-year programme, according S.Dharmalingam, General Manager (Research and Development, WRI and Labs), BHEL.

The programme encompasses theory and practicals in the fields of welding engineering, non-destructive testing and quality control. Internship training at WRI and fabrication shops of BHEL Tiruchi is an integral part of this programme that is slated for start from June 10, 2011.

Intake

A maximum of 30 students with B.E. degree in Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy, Automobile, Manufacturing, Mechatronics and allied disciplines or equivalent are admitted into the programme on an All-India basis.

Applications will be received till April 24, 2011, and the entrance examination will be conducted at Coimbatore on May 7, 2011. Entrance exam syllabus covers General Science (Maths, Physics & Chemistry), Strength of materials, Thermodynamics, Heat transfer, Engineering drawing &  Machine elements, Material science and Over view of manufacturing process.
