Tarang cine awards presented

BHUBANESWAR: The second annual Tarang cine awards, instituted by the Tarang entertainment television channel, were presented here on Saturday. Actor and former Union Minister Satrughan Sinha, well-known film producer Pahlaj Nihalini and actor Riya Sen were the special invitees. Twenty-four films released during 2010 were viewed by the jury followed by public voting and the awards in 22 categories were finalised.

While ‘Sanju Aau Sanjana' was adjudged the best film and Babusan was adjudged the best actor for his performance in the film, Sudhanshu Sahu bagged the best director award for ‘Swayamsiddha' that claimed the maximum number of awards including the Critics' Choice award.

Barsha Priyadarshini was adjudged the best actress for her role in ‘Aama Bhitare Kichi Achi'.

Actor-turned-parliamentarian Siddhant Mohapatra was awarded as the best actor in a negative role for the film ‘Don'. While Mihir Das received the best supporting actor award for the film ‘Sanju Aau Sanjana', Ushashi Mishra got the best supporting actress award for ‘Tu Tha Mu Jauchi Rushi'. Best actor in comic role went to Papu for his performance in ‘Sanju Aau Sanjana'.

Best debutant actor

Babloo was announced the best debutant actor for film ‘Om Namah Shivaya'. Krishna was adjudged the best male playback singer for the film ‘Bhul Bujhibani Mote' while Ira Mohanty was awarded the best female playback singer award for ‘Tu ThileMo Dara Kahaku'. Debdas Chhotray was adjudged the best lyricist for the film ‘Pahili Raja', while Prasant Padhi got the best music director award for ‘Sanju Aau Sanjana'.

The Life-time Achievement Award was conferred on playwright and screenplay writer Bijay Mishra for his contribution to the Odia Cinema. Satrughan Sinha and Director of Odisha Television, Jagi Mangat Panda presented the Tarang Cine Award Trophy and a cash award of Rs.50, 000 to the veteran writer.
