SOCIAL CONCERN: Participants in a function organised by the District Legal Services Authority to mark International Women's Day in Thrissur Thrissur: Fathima Beevi, former family court judge, has called for a collective effort by women against decadent value systems in society. Addressing a function organised by the District Legal Services Authority and the SOS Children's Village here on International Women's Day, she stressed the need for creating legal awareness among women about personal rights for protecting their dignity and safeguarding their privilege. “Women, of all ages, are subjected to various kinds of atrocities in society every day. Women should have the courage to fight for their right to equal space in society,” she said. Addressing a meeting organised by the Haritha Yuvajana Samskarika Vedi, Mayor I. P. Paul called for proper implementation of laws to protect women. The Mayor said the empowerment of women would be possible only by educating girl children. IUML Thrissur district president Hamsa Sahib said only a change in society's attitude towards women would raise their status. C.S.
