Slew of cultural events mark women's day

Cooking, oratorical, rangoli contests held



Talents to the fore:The winners of the dance competition held at the women's mela organised by Pudukottai Maharani Rotary Club.

PUDUKOTTAI: Cultural competitions for women, college and school students marked the women's mela organised in connection with the International Women's Day celebrations organised by the Rotary Club of Pudukottai Maharani on Sunday.

Women and college and school girls enthusiastically participated in cooking, oratorical, rangoli, mehandi, dance, flower decoration, art from waste, hair do, painting, essay writing, folk dance competitions.

While the topics for the oratorical competition was ‘the role of women in the country's development' and ‘Bharathi Kanda Pudumai Pen'; the topics for the poem composing contest was ‘the woman I admire' and ‘why so much of reluctance among women' and the topic for the painting contest was ‘women in nation building'. While Bharathanatyam competition was for individuals, teams comprising six girls participated in the folk dance contest.

Valliammai Subramanian, president of the Rotary Club of Pudukottai Maharani, presided over the valediction and Rajalakshmi Nedunchezhian, president of the Innerwheel Club, gave away prizes. Vallikannu Muthu, president of the Nagarathar Women's Association, Thillainayagi, industrialist, and others offered felicitations.

The following are the winners of the various competitions:

College students:

Oratorical competition: S.Devi (Mahatma College); poem composing: S.Devi (Mahatma College);

School students:

Mehandi: Nagadevi (Government Raniyar Higher Secondary School); Bharathanatyam: S. Madumitha (Mount Zion Matriculation HSS); poem composing: S. Madhumitha (Mount Zion Matriculation HSS); painting: M. V. Gayathri (Mount Zion Matriculation HSS); C. Lakshmi (Vairam School); folk dance: Athma Yoga Trust students.

Women:

Cooking competition: T. Visalakshi; Rangoli: M. Pandimeenal; Art from waste: M. Meenakshi; Flower decoration: Latha Suresh; Hair do: Chitra.
