Davis hits a century

New Delhi: Umpire Steve Davis reached a creditable milestone by standing in his 100th ODI — the World Cup match between India and Holland — here on Wednesday.

The 58-year-old, who made his international debut on December 12, 1992, in a match between Pakistan and the West Indies in Adelaide, has also stood in 31 Tests and 14 Twenty20 Internationals so far.

Mr. Davis, a member of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires since 2008, said on his achievement, "I am extremely proud and honoured to have reached this milestone. I can't quite believe that I am already at that landmark. It's fantastic to be reaching it at an ICC Cricket World Cup.”

He added, "I feel proud to be joining a group of 13 men who have stood in more than 100 ODIs and amongst them the great David Shepherd as well as many of my current colleagues from the elite panel of the ICC Umpires.”

Mr. Davis thanked his family, his umpiring colleagues Cricket Australia and the ICC for their support. — Special Correspondent
