Wayside complex at Wyra is nearing completion A pre-fabricated amenities centre proposed at Sriramgiri KHAMMAM: In an effort to provide improved amenities to the commuters on the highways passing through the district and boost tourism, the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has proposed to set up three wayside amenities one each in Wyra, Kunavaram and Sriramgiri in the district. The move is likely to help optimally harness the immense tourism potential of the district, which has already carved a niche for itself on the tourism map in the State. The wayside amenities christened as ‘Batasari' will offer facilities like canteen, children's play equipment and other amenities on the roadside. Sources said the ‘Batasari' complexes will provide amenities to the commuters bound to various destinations including tourist hubs within the district and elsewhere in a conducive atmosphere akin to the traditional system of ‘Putakulla Illu' which has become defunct several decades ago. The wayside complexes comprising a canteen one each manned by the staff of the APTDC will supply a wide range of food items in the self-service mode at affordable prices, sources said. “The construction of wayside amenities centre at Wyra is nearing completion,” said APTDC Divisional Manager, Warangal Division, K. V. Venkateshwara Rao. When contacted, Mr Rao said the facility was likely to be inaugurated in April after the completion of the landscaping and other final phase of works. The staff of the corporation would serve hygienic and quality food prepared by the trained cooks in self service mode at the canteen in the wayside amenities centre. It will also have play facilities for children and other requisite amenities for the commuters to relax in a pleasant ambience. The wayside amenities centre proposed at Kunavaram would not only cater to the needs of the travellers bound to far off destinations like Visakhapatnam in the State but also in the neighbouring Chhattisgarh State. “We have planned a pre-fabricated wayside amenities centre at Sriramgiri exclusively for the benefit of tourists visiting the famous tourist destination Papikondalu in the district,” he said.
