Complaint against Sangli corporation commissioner
Correspondent
Kolhapur: In response to a court order, the police have filed a criminal complaint against Commissioner of the Sangli-Miraj Municipal Corporation Dattatray Metake and engineer A.P. Jadhav on Thursday on the charge of threatening to demolish buildings and harassing building owners. However, the two officials have obtained bail.
In a drive against illegal construction in the city, the Commissioner and the engineer with other staff visited the buildings of Vasantadas Shaha and Anant Natu and allegedly threatened them that their buildings would be demolished. The demolition drive was opposed because it was based on the previous city municipal council's master plan which has not been revised after the formation of the corporation. Even the previous plan and the demolition drive were stayed by the court in 2007 in response to the petition of Mr. Shaha and Mr. Natu.
Without taking this into consideration, the Commissioner tried to demolish the buildings.
