Governor wants Goa to be ‘plastic-free zone'

PANAJI: Goa Governor S.S. Sidhu has suggested that Goa should aim at becoming a “plastic-free zone”.

Addressing a review meeting of solid waste management in cities and coastal areas and village panchayat areas of the State on Friday, he said that plastic was a point of worry so far as solid waste management was concerned, and hence, it was necessary to tackle this problem.

Governor S.S. Sidhu called for effective and efficient management of solid waste in the State to protect health of the people, preserve environment and promote tourism.

The problem of garbage disposal in coastal villages, which was getting worse, came up for discussion.
