VISAKHAPATNAM: The GVMC has issued a show-cause notice to real estate promoter Clover Associates for its project Majestic Towers. The high-rise apartment is coming up on the disputed land near Kali temple at R.K. Beach. The land came under the scanner of district authorities after the alleged fraudulent way in which the prime ULC land measuring 8,329 sq. m. was regularised. GVMC Commissioner not only served the notice but also directed the Chief Engineer to cut water supply. GVMC also asked the builder to stop construction till further orders. Following instructions from district Collector J. Syamala Rao, ULC Special Officer D. Venkateswara Rao alerted various departments on the fraud and registration of flats was suspended. “I have done my part of the investigation and submitted a report to the Collector. It is now up to him and the government to take a decision. From our side, we have alerted various departments to see that gullible buyers do not fall prey,” he said. The land was regularised in favour of Kasi Naga Kanaka Brahmam, P. Venkatapathi Raju and a society by name Sri Rama Cooperative Building Society by the Revenue Department in Hyderabad vide four GOs 455, 256, 398 and 424, despite the then Collector's and GVMC Commissioner's clear objection. Picking up chinks in the ULC Act and taking the help of GO 455 which states that “in the cases of occupation covered by structure but not supported by any registered document of purchase, the regularisation can be based on the following documents: electricity connection, construction permission, payment of property tax and water supply connection,” individual parties obtained property tax passbooks, which were certified as fraud by the then GVMC Commissioners N. Srikant and Mukesh Kumar Meena, and got the land regularised. FBV convenor E.A.S. Sarma said that this was only a tip of the iceberg.
