RSS has not participated in violent activities, says Manmohan Vaidya

Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE: The Rashtriya Swamysevak Sangh will take cognisance of allegations against its Central Working Committee member Indresh Kumar of involvement in violent acts only if he is found guilty in a court of law, said RSS spokesperson Manmohan Vaidya.

Mr. Vaidya told presspersons on Friday that the RSS neither supported violence nor participated in any such activity.

Mr. Vaidya was commenting on the proposed move of the Central Bureau of Investigation to mention Mr. Kumar's name in the charge sheet with regard to the 2007 Mecca Masjid blasts in Hyderabad.

Mr. Vaidya was at Puttur, 60 km from here, the venue of the three-day Akhila Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha of the RSS (meeting of representatives of sangh parivar organisations).

Ruling out any damage to the RSS from the confession by Hindutva leader Aseemanand, an accused in the 2007 Samjhauta train blast, Mr. Vaidya said there were a lot of questions about the confession. “It's not known whether it's a complete (confession) or how it was leaked. These facts are yet to come out,” he said.

Mr. Vaidya said the primary issue that will be discussed during the three day sabha would be corruption. “We will be looking at the main cause of corruption — whether it's because of an individual or the system or the election manifesto,” he said.

When asked about allegations of corruption against Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, Mr. Vaidya said, “The RSS has not supported corruption.”

Mr. Vaidya said the Pratinidhi Sabha would also deliberate on the internal security challenge that the country was facing because of the policies of China.

Earlier RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat inaugurated the Akhila Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha. Elected members from 35 different RSS organisations are participating in the meet. Among those who are participating in the event are the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's international president and general secretary Ashok Singhal and Praveen Togadia and the former RSS chief V. Sudershan.
