Final call on Tahir only on match-day

Special Correspondent

Nagpur: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has said his side is well-prepared for the tougher duels in the ICC World Cup.

“In the first four matches we have batted first and we have chased. We have played on good batting tracks and then on slow wickets.

“We have gained much from the experience,” he said here on Friday.

Dhoni said he felt there could a bit more bounce in the track here at the VCA. He quickly added: “But the pitch could also help the spinners later on. We have to wait and see.”

Dhoni said the selection decisions on the playing eleven had been taken with honesty and in the best interests of the side.

On Harbhajan Singh's inability to take wickets in the competition so far, he said: “There is not enough pressure from the batsmen on him. They have been playing safe. Greater the pressure on Harbhajan, the better he bowls. I feel he has been doing his job.”

South African captain Graeme Smith said a final call on injured leg-spinner Imran Tahir's fitness would be taken on Saturday.

Smith complimented his attack and said: “I believe the best way to restrict the scoring rate is by picking up wickets.”

South Africa has four points from three matches. “We will give it our best shot in every match. There are several theories about peaking at the right time.

“We will take one match at a time. Hopefully, we will be there at the end of the tournament and surprise a lot of people. We have a great opportunity.”
