Polling will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The voters were advised to use only the sketch pen given by polling staff SRIKAKULAM: The district administration has made elaborate arrangements for the MLC graduate constituency election to be held on Sunday. As many as 79 polling stations have been arranged in the district for 37,299 voters. The district Collector N.Srikanth said that about 350 polling personnel were sent to respective polling stations. The polling will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday. The ballot boxes will be kept in Revenue Divisional Offices and sent to Visakhapatnam on Monday. According to officials, the voters have to write ‘1' number to the candidate whom they like. They can write 2, 3, 4… numbers for the remaining candidates as the election is held on preferential method. The voters were advised to use only the sketch pen given by polling staff. The votes will become invalid if they are marked with other pens. Several parties fielded their candidates in the elections. MVS Sarma who won in the previous elections is contesting with the support of CPI(M). Lok Satta District president Prof. D. Vishnumurthy said his party had extended its support to him. BJP candidate Cheruvu Ramakotaiah, Telugu Desam candidate Tumula Bhaskara Rao and loyalist of Roads and Buildings Minister Chandrasekhar Chimakurthy, supporter of Transport Minister Botsa Satyanarayana Yadla Adiraju and others are in the fray. A few candidates have extensively campaigned to win the elections. Heavy bandobust VIZIANAGARAM: Elaborate bandobust arrangements have been made for conducting polling for MLC (Graduate Constituency) that will be held from 8 a.m to 4 p.m on Sunday. According to a press release issued by Superintendent of Police Navin Gulati on Saturday, 700 police personnel, including three DSPs, 34 SIs, 15 CIs and 154 home guards have been deployed to man the 73 polling stations (Vizianagaram division: 45 and Parvathipuram division: 28) in the district. He said 34 mobile teams, 15 striking forces and three special striking forces were also deployed. Mr. Gulati said nine sensitive and eight extremist-prone centres were identified and additional forces were positioned. Additional Superintendent of Police Y. Prem Babu will supervise the arrangements. Eleven investigation teams were positioned at district headquarters to register cases and act swiftly on complaints. Communication system An exclusive communication system among police personnel was also set up. The SP asked the polling staff to work in coordination with the police. The district appointed 390 polling staff and divided the district into 11 zones and 15 routes. An observer for each polling station was deputed along with a videographer. There are 40,728 voters in the district.
