Big cats maul to death three villagers

Dehra Dun/Bahraich: Three people, including an 11-year-old girl, were mauled to death by big cats while two leopards were killed by villagers in separate incidents in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, forest officials said on Sunday.

A tiger killed a 45-year-old man in Sunderkhal village near the Corbett Tiger Reserve in Uttarakhand. A girl was devoured by a leopard in Ron village in Almora district of the State.

Both these incidents happened on Saturday, the officials said.

An eight-year-old leopard was found dead in a stream near Kimari-Bhirtali road in the State, they said.

In Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district, a 25-year-old woman, was killed by a tiger inside the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary. The animal, which was dragging the woman towards the forest, fled leaving the body when villagers working in the fields raised an alarm. — PTI
