The high point of the festival will be ‘Pakalpooram' on March 23. KOTTAYAM: The festival at Sri Mahadevar temple, Thirunakkara, begins here on Tuesday. The ‘kodiyettu' at the temple will be held at 7 p.m. Chief Thantri Thazhamon Madhom Kandararu Maheswararu will lead the prayers. This will be immediately followed by ‘ kodikkeezhil kaanicka'. SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan will formally inaugurate the festival at a special function scheduled for 8 p.m. M. Rajagopal, president of the Travancore Devaswom Board, will deliver the keynote address. V.N. Vasavan, MLA, will inaugurate the cultural programmes and District Collector Mini Antony will release the souvenir being published in connection with the festival. Kummanam Rajasekharan will accept the financial assistance for the victims of the Pullumedu tragedy, mobilised by the Thirunakkara Temple Advisory Committee, on the occasion. Cultural programmes will commence at 9 p.m. with ‘Natyanjali' directed by Manju Rajesh. The first day of the festival will be wrapped up with a ‘ ganamela' by playback singer Rimi Tomy. Day two of the festival will begin with Nirmalya Darshanam at 4 a.m. followed by Ganapathy Homam. Sreebali will commence at 7:30 a.m. Ulsavabali Darshan is scheduled for 2 p.m. The cultural programmes on Wednesday are ‘Ayyappa Gaanaamrutham' by Manju Jayavijaya and ‘ Nruthasamgam' directed by Bhavani Chellappan. The festival programmes on the second day will come to a close with the opening of ‘Kathakali mahotsavom' by Mathur Govindan Kutty. This will be followed by ‘ Nalacharitham (day four) and Baali Vijayam. The high point of the 10-day festival will be the ‘Pakalpooram' scheduled for March 23, the ‘ Pallivetta' day. The Pakalpooram commences when ‘ cheru poorams' from Thirunakkara Sreekrishna Swamy temple, Puthiya Thrikovil Mahavishnu temple, Ambalakkadavu Bhagavathy temple, Pallippurathukavu Bhagavathy temple, Koprathu Durga Devi temple, Paarappadom Devi temple, Nagambadam Mahadevar temple, Thalikkotta Srimahadevar temple, Puthanagadi Devi temple, Eruthickal Devi temple and Malloorkulangara Mahadevar temple, converge on Thirunakkara. The Pakalpooram will be inaugurated by the NSS general secretary P.K. Narayana Panciker. The ‘ Aalthara melam' at the Pooram will be led by Peruvanam Kuttan Marar and Pandimelam by Mattannur Sankarankutty Marar. The Pakalpooram will conclude with Kudamattam and a pyrotechnic display. More than 20 elephants will be part of the Pakalpooram. Curtains will come down on the festival with the ‘Aarattu' scheduled for March 24.
