‘Oppressive societies unsafe for men too'
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Madhu Kishwar, eminent academician, writer and activist, has said that societies that push women behind veils and intolerant to their freedom of movement are unsafe to men too as opposed to societies with liberal laws towards women and children.
Participating in a conference to mark 100 {+t} {+h} year celebration of International Women's Day with the theme, ‘Celebrate and Act Now', here on Monday she said that the culture of dependence among women in our society on the other hand, often pitches women against women, especially in familial circumstances, leading to competition between mother-in-law daughter-in-law and sister-in-law.
The conference organised by the FICCI, AP State Council and FICCI Ladies Organisation, also had a panel discussion participated by Renu Challu, Managing Director, SBH, Katherine Dhanani, US Consul General and Shobhana Kamineni, Executive Director of Apollo Hospitals.
