Centurion CC posts win

KOCHI: Ben Chandy (three for 15) and Abdul Rahman (52) sparkled as Ernakulam's Centurion CC defeated Tripunithura's Palace CC by five wickets in the fifth Muthoot Pappachan T20 cricket tournament at the BPCL Kochi Refinery Ground, Ambalamugal, on Monday.

Muvattupuzha's Fighters CC and Ernakulam's SRM CC also posted first round wins.

The scores: Palace CC, Tripunithura 109 in 19.1 overs (Ben Chandy three for 14) lost to Centurion CC, Ernakulam 110 for five in 18.2 overs (Abdul Rahman 52).

Youngsters CC, Ernakulam 108 in 19 overs (S. Ajith three for 15) lost to Fighters CC, Muvattupuzha 109 for six in 15.4 overs (Abdul Jalal 42, Sreejith Raj three for 19).

CASC, Ernakulam 145 for four in 20 overs (Rabin Paul 58, P.R. Naveesh 42 n.o.) lost to SRM CC, Ernakulam 146 for five in 19 overs (P.B. Eby 47 n.o.).

ECC posts win

ECC beat Shornur CC by nine wickets in the Dr. M.S. Nair memorial all-Kerala cricket tournament in Perinthalmanna on Monday.

The scores:

Shornur CC 181 for nine in 28 overs (R. Subramannian 61, K.N. Nithin 31 n.o., Jithin Ramachandran three for 25, Praveen Achuthan three for 37) lost to ECC 184 for one in 24.2 overs (A.A. Uvais 81 n.o., Alissgar 65 n.o.); Packers 115 for nine in 30 overs lost to Cricket Academy, Thrissur, 116 for eight in 29.2 overs.

IOB, S. Railway triumph

Indian Overseas Bank (men) and Southern Railway (women) of Chennai, emerged champions in the Angamaly Sports Association's all-India volleyball tournament which concluded at the Kingini Stadium in Angamaly on Sunday.

IOB defeated Punjab Police 25-19, 25-19, 25-20 while the Southern Railway women staved off a strong challenge from Thiruvananthapuram's KSEB to prevail 18-25, 25-21, 16-25, 25-21, 15-8.

IOB's Selva Prabhu and KSEB's Jomol were adjudged the best players in the men's and women's sections respectively. P.J. Joy, former MLA, gave away the prizes.

P.R. Nair wins

P.R. Nair won the Cochin inter-club Golf Cup at the CIAL Golf Club, Nedumbassery, on Monday.

The tournament, sponsored by Federal Bank, was played under the net format and Samit Thilak finished runner-up.

Samit Thilak also bagged the best golfer award in the day-long tournament, the new Cochin International Airport golf course's maiden event, which attracted 40 players.

Jiji Philipose won the women's event and Nirmala Kannan was second.

Vice Admiral K.N. Sushil, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command, inaugurated the tournament and also gave away the prizes.
