Saha stars for Bengal, takes it to semifinals

HYDERABAD: A fine knock by Wriddhiman Saha (85 n.o., 41b, 5x4, 4x6) helped Bengal defeat Maharashtra by 49 runs to enter the semifinal of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy All India T-20 cricket tournament at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here on Monday.

Batting first, Bengal scored 171 for five with Saha the top scorer. In reply, Maharashtra was restricted to 122 for seven with Ashok Dinda (four for 13) the pick of the bowlers.

In another quarterfinal, Haryana defeated Kerala by 20 runs with Rahul Dewan (42) and Hemang Badani (42) batting with authority.

In the semifinals, Tamil Nadu will take on Madhya Pradesh while Bengal meets Haryana.

The scores: Bengal 171 for five in 20 overs (Wriddhiman Saha 85 n.o., Akshay Darekar three for 27) bt Maharashtra 122 for seven (Harshad Khadwale 34, Nikhil Paradkar 49, Ashok Dinda four for 13).

Haryana 155 for eight (Rahul Dewan 42, Hemang Badani 42) bt Kerala 135 in 19.5 overs (Robert Fernandez 33, V. A. Jagdeesh 49).

Two-wicket win

P. Krishnamurthy Cricket Club recorded a two-wicket win over Red Hills in the A-Division (one-day) league cricket championship here on Monday.

The scores: A-Division (one-day) league: Red Hills 147 (Raheem 47, Akhilesh three for 37, Naresh three for 15) lost to PKCC 150 for eight (Vijay 67).

B-Division one-day league: Super Stars 125 for seven (Murali 40, Ravikanth 33, Jitender three for 33, Ankith three for 13) lost to Mahaveer CC 127 for four (Sridhar 39) .

Dell triumphs

Dell scored a 27-run win over Wipro in the Aliens Space Station Cup corporate cricket tournament here.

The scores: Dell 138 for nine bt Wipro 111 for eight (Anshul Lal three for 14).

Karvy 102 for two (Praveen 30 not out) bt Talwalkars 86 (A.G. Praveen four for 11).

TCS 87 (Mohammed four for 14) lost to Hyderabad House 88 for four.

Deloitte 164 for five (Raja Ram 42, Kiran Kaleru 35, Arijeet 35) bt Tata Docomo 91 for eight.

Sri Infra 80 (Jayasurya three for 15) lost to ICICI Lombard 81 for five (Shekar three for 17).

Talwalkars 86 (Mirnal Sinha three for 22) lost to Capgemini 87 for two.

OU pool to re-open

The Osmania University swimming pool will re-open from March 15. The facility can be used by the students of the Campus, Constitute and Affiliated University Colleges and the general public. Application forms are available at the pool.
