THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) has completed sharing of seats for the April 13 Assembly elections. Under an agreement reached at the LDF State committee meeting here on Monday, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) will field 93 candidates, including eight party-backed Independents, Communist Party of India (CPI) 27, Janata Dal (S) 5, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) 4 each, Indian National League (INL) and Kerala Congress (Thomas) 3 each and Congress(S) one. The constituencies where CPI(M) candidates will contest in the party symbol are Manjeswaram, Uduma, Thrikkarippur, Payyannur, Taliparamba, Kalliassery, Azhikode, Dharmadam, Mattannur, Peravur, Thalassery, Kuttiyadi, Perambra, Balussery, Koyilandy, Kozhikode North, Kozhikode South, Beypore, Thiruvambadi, Koduvally, Mananthavady, Sulthan Bathery, Kalpetta, Wandoor, Kondotty, Perinthalmanna, Mankada, Tanur, Tirur, Ponnani, Thrithala, Tarur, Alathur, Nemmara, Shoranur, Ottappalam, Kongad, Palakkad, Malampuzha, Chittur, Kunnamkulam, Chelakkara, Manalur, Guruvayur, Puthukkad, Irinjalakuda, Chalakudy, Wadakkancherry, Aluva, Perumbavoor, Kunnathunad, Vypeen, Kalamassery, Kochi, Thrikkakkara, Thripunithura, Piravom, Idukki, Devikulam, Udumbanchola, Ettumanur, Kottayam, Puthuppally, Changanassery, Aroor, Alappuzha, Ambalappuzha, Kayamkulam, Chengannur, Mavelikara, Ranni, Aranmula, Konni, Kottarakara, Pathanapuram, Kundara, Kollam, Varkala, Attingal, Vamanapuram, Kattakada, Kazhakuttam, Nemom, Neyyattinkara and Parassala. Independents The CPI(M) will field party-backed Independents in Kunnamangalam, Vallikkunnu, Nilambur, Tavanur, Ernakulam, Thodupuzha, Poonjar and Vattiyurkavu. The party's tally of seats fell from the originally proposed 95 to 93 when it decided to give one additional seat each to the JD(S) and the INL, the former virtually enjoying a bonanza. The obvious aim of the front leader appeared to cause discomfiture to the M.P. Veerendrakumar-led Socialist Janata (Democratic). The party that has suffered is the RSP, which had to put up a tough battle with the CPI(M) leadership in 2006 to get four seats, but has not been given any additional seat despite the CPI(M) being liberal with the JD(S). The seats to be contested by the CPI are Kanhangad, Irikkur, Nadapuram, Tirurangadi, Manjeri, Ernad, Mannarkkad, Pattambi, Thrissur, Nattika, Ollur, Kaipamangalam, Kodungalloor, Paravur, Muvattupuzha, Peerumade, Vaikom, Kanjirappally, Cherthala, Haripad, Adoor, Karunagapally, Chathannur, Chadayamangalam, Punalur, Chirayinkeezhu and Nedumangad. The Janata Dal(S) will contest in Vadakara, Malappuram, Angamaly, Thiruvalla and Kovalam, The RSP in Kunnathur, Chavara, Eravipuram and Aruvikkara, the NCP in Elathur, Pala, Kuttanad and Kottakkal, the INL in Kasaragod, Koothuparamba and Vengara, the KC (Thomas) in Kothamangalam, Kaduthuruthy and Thiruvanan thapuram and the Congress (S) in Kannur.
