Dacoits try to loot jewellery shop

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Dacoits fired at the owner of a jewellery shop after trying to loot it at Medchal on Monday night but the shop workers retaliated by attacking them and forcing them to beat a retreat.

Policemen patrolling the area tried to catch the gang but the latter sped away in a white Bolero. Alerted by the shouts of the shop workers, passersby and locals chased the dacoits and reportedly managed to catch one of them carrying a firearm. The police, however, didn't confirm detention of any dacoit.

Six dacoits drove in the four-wheeler around 9.10 p.m. as the Jai Hanuman jewellery shop owner, Bisri Lal, and his workers were closing the shop. “They barged into the shop whipping out revolvers and ordered Lal and others to raise their hands,” the police said. One of the shop workers picked up an iron road and attacked a dacoit inflicting bleeding injury on his head. A dacoit fired at Lal from close range. He suffered a bullet wound on his waist and was rushed to a hospital where doctors said he was out of danger. Meanwhile, locals rushed to the shop on hearing the gun shot and shouts. On seeing the approaching crowd, the dacoits took to their heels.
